Our hotel was built to celebrate the unique beauty of “the place” - a majestic stage, set between the mountains and sea.
For over a decade we have invited guests from across the world to fall in love with Tokeh Beach. Since being opened by Sierra Leone’s president in 2013, we have welcomed everyone from international celebrities such Idris Elba to couples seeking a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
No matter who visits, The Place provides a luxurious opportunity to connect with this stunning coastline.
But the magic of this spot doesn’t only come from water, sand and forest—its allure is owed in equal part to the culture and warmth of the local community.
Through providing employment, education and clean water, we have supported the community. In turn, we have greatly benefitted and learnt from them.
Our Contribution to the Community
Employment
At The Place, we prioritise local people for our employment opportunities. Our strong links to Tokeh ensures our team exemplifies the charming and hospitable nature of this wonderful community.
Internships
For local young people, we have developed an internship programme that provides them opportunities to learn from skilled and experienced staff in a range of roles.
Whether staff are new or longstanding, we nurture our talent through ongoing training and development.
Education
For over 10 years, The Place has believed in the transformative power of education. Alongside constructing the resort, back in 2013 our team helped build Tokeh School.
Since then, we have continued to provide stationary, workbooks, tables, chairs and more to help ensure a quality standard of teaching.
More recently, we have worked with the village to build a large, well stocked library accessible to all of the community.
Health & Sanitation
Access to clean water is vital for the wellbeing of any community. To safeguard the health of Tokeh, The Place ensures the village has a reliable source of treated, potable water.
We are proud to have constructed a dam large enough to benefit the whole village, alongside a network of pipelines that bring water to outlets throughout Tokeh.
As part of our ongoing commitment to the community, we have also built and maintained an accessible and hygienic public toilet for villagers to use.
